*The service was drafting amendments to Iraqi Trademarks and Descriptions Law No. 21 of 1957

The Client Government of Iraq, Ministry of Commerce.
Point of Contact: Iraqi Ministry of Commerce.
Output: We have been asked by the Iraqi Ministry of Commerce to provide suggested amendments to the Iraqi Trademarks and Descriptions Law No. 21 of 1957 which we submitted to the Iraqi Government in December 2003. As a result, our notes were taken into consideration when the law was amended and issued under CPA/ORD/26 Apr 04/80.

*The service was to draft implementing regulations for the Intellectual Property Laws in Bahrain.

The Client: Government of Bahrain, Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Point of Contact: The Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Output: As a result for Bahrain's accession to the WTO, IP laws had to be amended to comply with international standards. The Government of Bahrain drafted the new IP laws, but needed a firm to draft implementing regulations. We were entrusted with this task, while the final drafts were for the following regulations:
Trademark Implementing Regulations.
Copyright Implementing Regulations.
Patent Implementing Regulations.
Industrial Design Implementing Regulations.
Integrated Circuit Implementing Regulations.
Plant Variety Implementing Regulation.
Trade Secret Implementing Regulation.
Geographical Indication Implementing Regulation.
Drafts were submitted to the Bahraini Ministry of Industry and Trade in November 2003. The total period for finalizing the drafts was three months and drafts were made from scratch.

*The service was to participate in a committee to draft the new Trademark Law, including geographical indications.

The Client: Government of Lebanon, Ministry of Economy and Trade:
Point of Contact: Ministry of Economy and Trade of Lebanon.
Output: A draft of the new Trademark Law submitted in March 2005. The draft is still pending approval by the Lebanese Parliament.

*The service was drafting the new E-Commerce and Electronic Signature Law.

Output: We were the only private law firm to participate in preparing the drafts of the new E-Commerce and Electronic Signature Law; other parties involved were public and international bodies. Our draft, submitted in June 2005, was chosen as one of the three main drafts to be selected by the Prime Minister’s Office and will be sent to the Lebanese Parliament once approval is obtained from the Cabinet.

*The service: Drafted the new implementing regulations for the Collective Societies for the Protection of Copyrights and Neighboring Rights.

The Client: Government of Lebanon, Ministry of Culture
Point of Contact: Lebanese Ministry of Culture.
Output: We submitted a draft of the new implementing regulations for the Collective Societies in January 2005. Our draft was accepted by the Minister of Culture and pending approval by the Cabinet to be sent to the Lebanese Parliament.

*The service was drafting amendments to the Offshore Companies Act No. 46 of 1983.

The Client: Government of Lebanon, Prime Minister's Office.
Point of Contact : Lebanese Prime Minister's Office.
Output: We submitted an amended draft of the Offshore Companies Act No. 46 of 1983 in July 2005. The project included preparing a 150 page study of the offshore environments worldwide with comparisons to Lebanon. The new draft was approved by the Lebanese Cabinet and the Management and Justice Committee of the Lebanese Parliament, and is pending a final approval by the Lebanese Parliament.

* The service was drafting amendments to the internal regulations concerning the publication of patent and trademark applications in the official gazette.

The Client: Government of Lebanon, Prime Minister's Office.
Point of Contact: Lebanese Prime Minister's Office.
Output: We prepared an amended draft of the internal regulations governing the publication of patent and trademark applications in the official gazette. The amendments were approved and applied immediately as of May 2006.

*The service was drafting the new Iraqi Copyright Law.

The Client: Government of Iraq, Ministry of Culture.
Point of Contact: Iraqi Ministry of Culture.
Output: We submitted a draft of the new Copyright Law of the year 2005 on April 2005. The draft is still pending for the approval of the Iraqi Parliament.
